The Paediatric First Aid course is designed for individuals who work with infants and children and have a responsibility for their care. It meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and is suitable for those working in nurseries, schools, childcare settings, and family care environments.
This course provides learners with the confidence, knowledge, and practical skills needed to respond effectively to a range of paediatric emergencies.
What the course covers
• Roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider
• Assessing an incident and managing the scene safely
• Primary survey and ongoing casualty assessment
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for infants and children
• Use of an AED on infants and children
• Choking management for infants and children
• Management of unconscious infants and children
• Wounds, bleeding, and shock
• Burns and scalds
• Fractures, dislocations, and soft tissue injuries
• Head injuries and spinal awareness
• Medical conditions including asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes, seizures, and febrile convulsions
• Poisoning and foreign objects
• Infection prevention and control
• Record keeping and reporting incidents
• Legal requirements relating to paediatric first aid
Assessment
Assessment takes place throughout the course and includes:
• Practical skills assessments
• Scenario-based exercises
• Written knowledge checks
Certification
Successful candidates will receive the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF), valid for 3 years.
This qualification meets Ofsted and EYFS requirements for registered childcare providers.
