The Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course is designed for individuals who are appointed as workplace first aiders in low-risk environments. It meets Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements and provides learners with the essential skills needed to respond confidently to emergency situations in the workplace.

This course focuses on immediate life-saving interventions and effective incident management until further help arrives.

What the course covers

• Role and responsibilities of an emergency first aider
• Incident assessment and managing the scene safely
• Primary survey and casualty assessment
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
• Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• Choking management
• Management of unconscious casualties
• Wounds and bleeding
• Shock recognition and management
• Minor injuries
• Infection prevention and control
• Record keeping and incident reporting
• Legal requirements relating to workplace first aid

Assessment

Assessment is carried out throughout the course and includes:
• Practical skills assessments
• Scenario-based exercises
• Written knowledge checks
