The FREUC 5 qualification is a comprehensive, advanced pre-hospital care programme designed for those operating at a high clinical level in emergency and urgent care environments. It is aimed at experienced responders progressing toward senior pre-hospital roles, including those working in remote, austere, hostile, or private medical environments.

This qualification builds significantly on FREC 4, developing advanced clinical assessment, decision-making, and patient management skills where responders may be required to operate independently for prolonged periods.

What the course covers

• Advanced roles, responsibilities, and professional practice in emergency and urgent care
• Advanced scene management and dynamic risk assessment
• Comprehensive patient assessment including advanced primary and secondary surveys
• Advanced airway management techniques and adjuncts
• Advanced respiratory assessment and oxygen therapy
• Advanced cardiovascular assessment and management
• Catastrophic haemorrhage control and advanced trauma management
• Management of complex trauma including chest injuries, spinal trauma, burns, and multi-system trauma
• Advanced management of medical emergencies including cardiac conditions, anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, seizures, stroke, and sepsis
• Casualty monitoring, clinical decision-making, and treatment planning
• Prolonged field care and delayed evacuation scenarios
• Use of advanced equipment and monitoring tools
• Pharmacology awareness within scope of practice
• Communication, leadership, and structured handover to emergency services
• Legal, ethical, and professional considerations
• Record keeping, patient documentation, and governance
• Infection prevention and control

Assessment

Assessment methods include:
• Practical skills assessments
• Written assignments and knowledge assessments
• Scenario-based simulations
• Portfolio of evidence demonstrating competence in real or simulated environments

Certification

Successful candidates will be awarded the Qualsafe Level 5 Diploma in First Response Emergency and Urgent Care (RQF).

This qualification provides a strong foundation for progression into higher clinical roles, including advanced pre-hospital care pathways and specialist medical provision.
