The FREC 3 course is designed for individuals who may be required to provide emergency care in high-risk or pre-hospital environments. It builds on basic first aid knowledge and focuses on structured casualty assessment, trauma management, and medical emergencies.

What the course covers

• Role and responsibilities of a First Responder
• Scene safety, dynamic risk assessment, and personal protection
• Patient assessment including primary and secondary surveys
• Airway management including use of adjuncts
• Breathing and oxygen therapy
• Circulation and catastrophic haemorrhage control
• Shock recognition and management
• Management of trauma injuries including fractures, dislocations, and spinal injuries
• Head injuries and altered levels of consciousness
• Medical emergencies including cardiac conditions, asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes, seizures, and stroke
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of an AED
• Infection prevention and control
• Handover and communication with emergency services
• Record keeping and incident reporting

Assessment

Assessment is continuous throughout the course and includes:
• Practical skills assessments
• Written knowledge assessments
• Scenario-based exercises

Certification

Successful candidates will receive the Qualsafe Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF), valid for 3 years.
