The First Aid at Work (FAW) course is designed for individuals who are appointed workplace first aiders in higher-risk or larger working environments. It meets Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements and provides learners with the confidence and practical skills to respond effectively to a wide range of workplace emergencies.
What the course covers
• Role and responsibilities of a workplace first aider
• Incident assessment and managing the scene safely
• Primary survey and casualty assessment
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of an AED
• Choking management
• Wounds, bleeding, and shock
• Management of unconscious casualties
• Fractures, dislocations, and soft tissue injuries
• Head injuries and spinal awareness
• Burns and scalds
• Medical emergencies including heart attack, stroke, asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes, and seizures
• Infection prevention and control
• Record keeping and reporting incidents
• Legal requirements and workplace first aid regulations
Assessment
Assessment is carried out throughout the course and includes:
• Practical skills assessments
• Written knowledge assessments
• Scenario-based exercises
Certification
Successful candidates will receive the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF), valid for 3 years.
